Margar persónur Brennu-Njáls sögu mæta sjálfviljugar dauða sínum. Feigð er hugleikin höfundi hennar. Leitað í smiðju bókmenntafræðingsins Peter Brooks og upphafsmanns sálgreiningarinnar, Sigmund Freuds, til að skilja betur hvernig þetta áleitna minni sögunni tengist heildarbyggingu Stuðst við kenningar um „meistarafléttu Freuds“ þar sem átök dauðahvata lífshvata sálarlífinu eru hliðstæða grunnformgerð allra frásagna. Með því nýju ljósi varpað á einstæða listaverk.
